I have been participating in an online course titled "So What if we are Teaching CRT" This is my reflection on module 4.

As with the other modules, I found the resources very informative and useful. I find the videos frustrating as I often feel that those putting together the news stories frames them in such a way that it makes everyone seem more divisive than they are. One video, however I found to be particularly useful was from ABC News Prime. In this interview, educator, Jesse Hagopian discussed that students are having these discussions regarding structural racism on their own, and we as educators should decide if we want these conversations to continue in the classroom. I think this point should be made more often with those that oppose CRT or any discussion of its concepts. Like anything students are able to find online, they are talking about it, as educators, we should ensure students are receiving the correct information.

For actions I may take, I focused on two articles: It doesn't speak to me: understanding student of color resistance to critical race pedagogy and Toward a Critical Race Curriculum. I was interested in examples of how CRT is being used and proposed within the curriculum. I am not currently teaching, however, this course has reminded me to take a close look at the policies and programs I am involved in after school. I think it is always good to examine the work you do through various lenses to ensure that decisions are in fact made for the good of each student.
